Dairy Free Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte

Recipes

I LOVE Starbucks. Who doesn’t, really? But as much as I love Starbucks, I don’t always love spending the money.  Especially since I like to keep my drinks dairy free and they charge extra for almond or coconut milk. So I created my own version of their Matcha Green Tea Latte.  It’s dairy free, delicious, and affordable! Can’t beat that!

If you’ve never heard of Matcha green tea, you’re really missing out.  Matcha is a finely ground powder from Japan made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves.  It’s packed with antioxidants, boosts metabolism, focus, and energy, burns calories, naturally relieves stress, plus many other health benefits.  I started drinking Matcha green tea lattes when I decided to cut back on my coffee intake, and I’m glad I did.  I don’t get the caffeine jitters like coffee gives me and I still feel like I have plenty of energy all day long.

I found an organic Matcha powder that mixes well and tastes great. You can get yours here.

This recipe is quick, super simple, and easy to customize. Don’t like vanilla almond milk? Use regular or coconut milk instead.  Not trying to be dairy free?  I haven’t tried it, but I’m sure this would taste fine with dairy milk too.  I always have a batch of simple syrup ready to go in the fridge, but if you prefer using honey as a sweetener, it tastes just as good. I like to make a venti sized drink, so this recipe calls for 20 ounces of almond milk.  If that’s too big of a batch for you, just reduce the amount of milk.  You can keep the amount of Matcha powder the same and the flavor will be a little stronger (which isn’t a bad thing), or reduce it to your liking.

Starbucks doesn’t blend their Matcha powder into their iced lattes, so I’ve always gotten big chunks in my straw.  I solve that problem at home by pouring all the ingredients in my Ninja single serve cup, and blending it until it’s smooth.  I even get a nice latte froth on top when I pour it into my glass.

So what are you waiting for?! Go get your green drink on! Let me know in the comments if you’ve come up with any Starbucks copycat recipes in your own kitchen.
